Idea
For my final major project, I started with three ideas.
Idea 1
A trailer for a television series for Channel 4. The series genre would be horror and would be about a zombie apocalypse. I would take inspiration from television programmes like ‘The Waking Dead’ and ‘Dead Set’.
This piece would involve at least 6 people to act the part of zombies and 1 person to play the hero. I haven’t filmed this many people in one project before and it is something I would like to do.
The problems that this idea would encounter are that special effects makeup would be difficult to do and expensive. Also, the current pandemic restrictions might make it very difficult to achieve.
Idea 2
An advert for a theatre streaming service. Theatre streaming services have increased in popularity and bring live theatre into people’s homes. I would take inspiration from ‘National Theatre Live’ and ‘Complicite’. It would be filmed at a theatre, on stage and in the wings. It would involve 1 person presenting and 1 person filming.
I have always loved performing arts and I would enjoy filming in a theatre environment.
Due to the current restrictions this would be difficult to film as I may not have access to a theatre.
Idea 3
A music video about someone turning their back on their problems and trying to move on. As we move out of lockdown some people are looking at making lifestyle changes and I think this video will relate to them. During the video I will be using real life to cartoon transitions to take the audience on a surreal journey. I would take inspirations from music videos ‘Bohemian Rapsody’ by Queen and ‘Take on Me’ by A-Ha.
I have always enjoyed editing pieces and recently have started to experiment with special effects. This idea would allow me to expand on my current skills in editing and special effects
This type of special effect is very time consuming, and I could end up running out of time and not finishing the project.
FMP Idea Decision
I have decided to create a music video. Due to the pandemic, I think it would be the safest option and the one that would most likely to be completed, but the main reason for choosing it is that I can use special effects. I have always enjoyed experimenting with special effects and editing and I want to showcase this in my piece.
Moodboards for all 3 of my ideas
My FMP will be a music video to the song ‘X&Y by the band Coldplay. The song talks about the promise to fix or repair a broken situation anyway they can. There’s a sense of helplessness in the notion they are “drifting on a tidal wave” or “floating into outer space.”. I am going to include real life to cartoon transitions in parts of the video to take the audience on a surreal journey. It will start in a classroom setting and then move outside and then finish back in the classroom. If restrictions allow, I will film outside at The Walks in Kings Lynn.
MOOD BOARD
My mood board helps me to express the vision I have in mind for the project. The colour theme is blue and purple. Blue can represent depression and water and the purple can represent mourning and sensitivity, all of which is portrayed n the lyrics. The mood board also includes some animation images.
MIND MAP
My SWOT analysis has proved really useful in identifying potential barriers that may prevent me from producing an FMP that I can be proud of. Having identified my weaknesses, I will attempt to limit any impact they might have on my piece with support from my peers and college lecturers. Identifying any threats at the start of my FMP will allow time for me to come up with an alternative plan if needed.

Upon receiving my feedback for my pitch, I will look into different directors of pop promos (music videos).
